...it's Christmastime in the city...

Ray and I took Jayden and Mia into Manhattan yesterday and our first stop was St. Patrick's Cathedral for the 8:30 A.M. Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception:

Then we took advantage of the empty city streets to look at some of the window displays:

(There was no waiting on long lines!)

And we did a little shopping for Mia at the American Girl store:

(So much to choose from!)

Next stop was the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center:

(See how empty?! Sometimes I don't mind the bustling crowds, but with the little ones along, this was beautiful!)

And then a quick stop in a bagel shop to get warm and have a morning snack:

From there we went to the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall.
It was the first time Mia was seeing the show, it was so much fun to see her excitement and to view everything through her eyes:

Mia asked me if this was the real Santa Claus and I told her I thought it was. Then she said to me, "I don't think those are his real reindeer though, Grandma, I think those are just the Rockettes dressed up like Santa's reindeer."

Here she was adjusting her 3-D glasses for Santa's sleigh ride, she really enjoyed that!

At the finale, Mia leaned over and whispered, "Grandma are those real sheep?" I told her they were:

Here Mia whispered to me, "Look, Grandma, it's the real Mary and Joseph!"

She absolutely loved The Rockettes! And while Jayden declined having his picture taken with a real, live Rockette, Mia was happy and eager to pose with her:

After the show we took a walk to Build-A-Bear:

(Mia was very serious about following instructions.)

(And she was very serious about giving Clarice a good scrub too!)

And on the way to the bus home we stopped to enjoy the window displays at Lord & Taylor:

Jayden & Mia especially liked this next window as they had just decorated their own gingerbread houses over the weekend:

We really had a great day!

Two short videos:

I wonder how long it takes them to get this routine down!

A really beautiful finale!

  2. Wanda....again, another beautiful blogpost....what a treasure for you and your family!!! Living where you do. I have only been to N.Y. one time, and we had flown there from Atlanta to transfer to another flight to Europe...I never went outside the airport terminal. So, I never got to "see" the Big Apple. I do soooo want to see N.Y....and what a beautiful season to do that...at Christmas!!! Treasure every moment....as I know you do. Love to you, my friend.

  3. What an adventure and good Christmas memories for Mia and Jayden to have always. I have to say though, I would have had claustrophobia being one of the Rocketts in that slow pileup!
