National Day Of Prayer

While visiting another blog (A Bit Of The Blarney) yesterday I read that today is the National Day of Prayer. And then I looked it up to see how long this tradition has been held.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
I love the idea of a National Day of Prayer. I love the idea of people of all Faiths and all walks of life united in prayer for our country. God Has Been So Good to us as a nation. Despite her many problems, the United States is truly Blessed. I find it so heartening to know that many of the citizens of the United States will pause today to give thanks for God’s Blessings and to ask God to continue to Bless us, to Protect us, and to Guide us.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  1. "Obama plans a scaled back National Day of Prayer". Too bad our President isn't wholeheartedly behind it. I guess he doesn't want to upset all of the atheists that voted for him.

  3. Too bad the leader of this Nation doesn't share your ideals, he chooses to pray as a family and not as a nation.

  4. I agree completely, it makes me sad that the leader of our Nation would choose not to publicly acknowledge not only a wonderful tradition, but also the fact that so many of those that voted him into office do thank God for His many Blessings bestowed on this Nation, and do turn to Him in daily prayer to ask Him to continue to Guide us through good times and through bad.
But I'm not going to blog about it.

  6. If our President is not giving this enough emphasis, it just means we have to pray that much harder, as well as to change his heart on other issues.

Thank you for such great information too, Eileen...you are a great researcher!

    blessings to you and yours
