A Nice Break From Our Routine

During Jayden's Winter Break from school we took a road trip to Myrtle Beach. We stayed with my Aunt Florence. She lives in a very pretty retirement community, and it is so peaceful, and quiet, and safe, and friendly. It was a lot of fun and Jayden had a blast! And why wouldn't he? He was busy every day with so many things to enjoy!

Fishing in Florence's backyard:

Gunfights:

Swans:

Castles:

Knights:

Dragons:

Dinner:
(Notice there are no utensils. We drank our soup ["Dragon's Blood"] out of those little bowls and we ate the rest of the meal ["Dragon Meat"] using our fingers.)

Drama:

Kings and Princesses:

Cheering for 'our Knight':

Battles:

Swords:

Sword fights:

(I think the peace and quiet of my Aunt Florence's little retirement community was broken for awhile!)

Farms and farm animals:

(I loved these red cows! They look more brown in this photo, but in person they were red! [Okay, maybe they were more auburn.] They were definitely not brown cows. I think they were called Red Dover, I tried looking it up but I couldn't find anything about 'red dover' but I did find lots of information about red cows.)
(These cows are considered sacred and they are 'sacrificial cows' in Judiasm. The Old Testament refers to red cows in this way: "...bring forth a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish...", and the Epistle of Barnabas equates the red heifer with Jesus. I found that so interesting.)

Old plantations:

(This was very interesting to read about the slave quarters, and how there was even a seemingly hierarchy among the slaves [house slaves vs land slaves], and how some slaves were housed better than others, and how some slaves wouldn't associate with slaves they thought lesser than themselves.)

Nature's beauty:

Catching chameleons:

Long walks:

Lots of posing:

(If you look very closely at the photo below you can see that Jayden is trying to replicate the statue in the background.)

Finding a little friend:

Playing tag with the ocean:

Golfing:

Investigating my cousin MaryAnn's backyard:

Petting snakes and alligators:

(Someone was very cautious!)

Lots of treats:

And so much more!
During my next few posts I will tell you about a few of my favorites during our trip to Myrtle Beach (touring model homes, touring an old mansion, and the 'Spirit of Ireland')!

  1. Wow this is cool Eileen! My daughter Ginny's boyfriends family has a vacation home on Myrtle Beach. They stay there pretty often, just think you may have ran into each other! Wouldn't that have been a small world moment!
I am so glad that you had some time to relax. And getting away from the yucky weather must have been really great!
Jayden seems to like it there just fine. And I found the red cows very interesting too. I had never heard of them or the background on them before. I can't wait to see more photos!
    Love Di ♥
P.S. I really missed you, you should email me!

  6. Ever since I saw this a few days ago I've been thinking of Aunt Florence's retirement village. I even asked around here if we have anything like that (We don't :) That would be so IDEAL. To be near nature and animals and land...it really seems like it's own little village. LOVE IT.

Jayden cracks me up the way he is always up for anything...even putting his head in a crocodile's mouth!
