Well, we all remember this not so yummy looking half-eaten tomato being destroyed by a horn worm (thank you, Wanda, for identifying this little thief for us!). Yuck!
But that was then, and THIS is NOW! WOW!
The tomatoes to the left of the lemon and lime are from the little tomato plant in the pot on our back deck, the ones on the right are from the one planted in the soil on the side of our house.
I've been cutting up the smaller tomatoes to use in garden salads, and I've been slicing the bigger ones and having them on toasted bread for lunch, and we also put them on our hamburgers when Ray barbecues.
And last night we had this delicious appetizer before we ate dinner.
And Jayden has his own little bowl of appetizer because he's not fond of basil or sweet peppers, and he only likes olive oil as a dip for his bread! (Oh, and he had a few bites before this picture was snapped!)
And I've been asking a few family members about how 'Awesome' they find me (for the Awesome Award), and surprisingly my girls had some nice (and funny) things to say! First my daughter Katie said that she thought I was so awesome because of the time she almost died and I came to visit her in the hospital and sat and read magazines with her! Seriously?! That's the best she could come up with?! Oh, yeah, how awesome is that! Such a wonderful mother to go that extra mile and visit your daughter in the hospital after she almost dies. Big whoop.
But then she did have a few more things (more awesome things) to say. I haven't asked my sons yet but I will and I'll post either over the weekend or Monday the latest!
Instigator, if you're reading here, get ready to tell me something awesome! And spread the word to your brother Protester! I'll take care of asking The Quiet One. I promise I won't mention any of you by name, although the girls say they don't care.

Can hardly wait to read your list! Annnnndd those tomatoes looooook sooooo DEEEELICIOUS! [sigh!] Cathy
ReplyDeleteI remember that thief...I had two of them myself...between them and the squirrels, we were very busy protecting our tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteWonderful harvest Eileen...you did the tomatoes justice in preparing them...looks delicious on your beautiful table...
Can't wait to see your list...I'm sure Jayden and Mia could come up with great ones for you too...
I am off to buy groceries...can't live on tomatoes alone!
Wanda
Your tomatoes are beautiful...from vine to table....and the artist in you has made them reach out to me and say....."Eileen is awesome."
ReplyDeleteLove,
Jackie
Thank you, Cathy, I loved your list so much!
ReplyDeleteAnd the tomatoes are delicious, so juicy and meaty! Not at all like the orange plastic-looking pathetic things the grocery store sells!
Wanda, I couldn't believe you had to put an electric guard fence around your tomatoes!
And both my daughters did ask Jayden why Umma was awesome and he said, "Because she plays Play-Doh with me!" I guess that was the last thing we did together yesterday so it was fresh in his mind. I think I might use it on my list!
Jackie, you have now joined the ranks of Diana and Marcy as you have made me choke with laughter! Good job!
I'm off to make myself a second cup of coffee! 'See' you all later!
Love,
Eileen
Oh, there's nothing like fresh homegrown tomatoes! We are getting quite a few off our plants this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments on my blog. You're welcome anytime.
I love tomatoes on everything! Like you Eileen I did get answers from both daughters. I haven't heard from my son yet who will probably think that it's stupid and grunt at me! He is one of those yup, nope kinda guys, so this should be interesting!
ReplyDeleteWhat I saw right away was the beautiful way that you placed a lemon and a lime to offset the gorgeous tomatoes. You truly have some beauties there, Eileen and I'm so proud of you with the olive oil as it is so good for you! Is that sour cream on those yummy appetizers?
ReplyDeleteblessings and hugs and very truly yours,
marcy
Diana, I am sure my sons will roll their eyes at me, and then say something about how awesome it was when I yelled at them to take the garbage out for the umpteenth time or some such other nonsense! This will be interesting!
ReplyDeleteMarcy, I have to give Ray the credit for the lemon and the lime to give some perspective as to the size of the tomatoes (well, actually I think he suggested using a quarter! So I can take the credit for the lemon and lime!).
And you may not be so proud of this, it was not sour cream, it was unhealthy, cholesterol-boosting fresh mozzarella cheese with the tomatoes in the picture! And given the chance, I could have eaten that whole platter by myself!
Love,
Eileen
Good morning-
ReplyDeleteOh those tomatoes look SO delicious!! And I too look forward to your list of AWW_SUMM things about you.
Have a kind and loving day.
Love to you
Gail
peace.....
Hi Eileen, those tomatoes look wonderful, mine are strugglig to live and I am determined that they will.....our growing season is behind yours and most other states but I do have a lot of small green ones on the vine. Hey Marcy, I knew it was mozzarella cheese....umm so good Eileen that I probably could of ate the whole plate as well. Have a great day my friend.....:-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteEileen, you DO know that there is low fat mozarella? And now I love your appetizer even more as I have a terible weakness for cheese and sometimes hert slamming sounds when I eat it, but not to worry, it's nothing spookier than the sound of my arteries closing up!
ReplyDeleteHow often do you check your e-mail...weekly, monthly, yearly?
Can I expect you at confession today, fully or at least partially repentant??
Okay, Marcy, I checked my email and responded!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think it most likely was low fat cheese as Ray purchased it and he has a high cholesterol and usually reaches for lowfat. And I can't tell any difference in the taste so that's fine with me.
Oh, and I'm ducking confession today! No sense in confessing and doing penance when I know what tomorrow will bring! It would be like doing a double-whammy sin!
Love,
Eileen
Bernie, do you avoid cheese on your diet? And we've only had the big tomatoes this past week or so, and the little ones we've had for a few weeks now. I love them!
ReplyDeleteWish we could all get together and share some!
Love,
Eileen
Thanks, Gail!
ReplyDeleteI've been to visit you today already, but haven't left a comment yet. I started to leave one but I got interrupted and I didn't want to rush through it. I'll be back later.
Love,
Eileen
What a nice looking appertizer. That would have gone peect with my dinner tonight. Your tomato bounty looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love tomatos toasted on bread. We use olive oil for just about everything. It's so good. Your appetizers look delicous. There is nothing quite like a fresh vine rippened tomato. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteYour tomatoes look beautiful!! You must have got rid of those nasty worms...Your appetizer looks yummy!!
ReplyDeleteLove, Jerelene
Eileen, I wanted to tell you that I appreciate all the kind words and prayers so much!! It means a lot to know that you are thinking of me..I'm finally feeling a little better today and I wanted you to know I appreciate your kindness!!

I'm looking forward to learning more about your awesomeness through your kids' eyes. It's always interesting to see what they come up with huh? I think it takes till we are in our 40s or 50s to really understand what truly great parents we had.
ReplyDeleteSo do you have any more ideas what you are going to do with your extra tomatoes. Do they freeze well?
