A lot of the 'girls' in the family were going to get together this week, we had plans to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but Mother Nature had other plans:
The view out our front door ~
The Blizzard of 2010 is cramping our style!
Jayden and Paw got busy shoveling us out:
And they took a little time out from their work to build a snow fort:
Ray, Katie, and our brother-in-law Steve work in Manhattan and they said the streets are not cleared yet. I saw on the news that some buses, and cabs, and emergency vehicles still sit where they have been abandoned in the middle of the street! It's almost impossible to surmount the mounds of snow on the street corners, it is piled so high, and people are having to wait in the middle of the street for buses and cabs.
So I am disappointed because it is a rare treat for so many of us girls to be free at the same time to do something together and I was looking forward to a 'girls day out' but I guess it will have to wait until Spring break and the spring thaw. Oh well, something to look forward to!
Now, here we are three days later and we are still snowed in! I've heard this blizzard called 'The Bloomberg Blizzard' on the news. Mayor Bloomberg is not doing a very good job at clearing the streets. I used to laugh when relatives said their areas further south would close down at just a dusting of snow. I was used to big snow storms and having them plowed away by the sanitation department in no time. This city almost never closed down for snow. It's a very different story this time! I've heard that New York City is in a lot of trouble financially and there have been many, many lay-offs. Funny though how when they take services away from us they never lower our taxes. In fact, for the privilege of NOT getting service we get to pay MORE taxes! I love New York, but we have to get out of here, we're going broke living in this city!
The sun has been helping to melt some of the snow a little:
But there is still just so much snow around!
I am so glad Jayden has off from school this week because I would not relish trying to maneuver these mounds of snow on every corner!
And the streets are no better with cars skidding all over the place!
But here is this little man still thouroughly enjoying the Bloomberg Blizzard! He's in his glory!
It's Been A While

I have been watching the storm on the news, you really got hit hard, my family in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick really got hit hard yesterday and the day before......how are they going to plough the streets with all the cars abandon on them, will they tow them away? It is a real mess. Jaydon looks so cute out helping his grandfather, I'm glad that he is home this week as well so you don't have to try and see around those snow banks. Sorry about not being able to have your girls day out, but you are right you now have something to look forward to in the Spring. Stay warm and safe my friend....:-)Hugs
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Are you starting to get cabin fever? I love snow but this is a bit much for even me! That would shut our town down for a looonnggg time. Hope you are staying warm, reading and watching good movies. Perfect nesting weather, Sweetie! Lori
ReplyDeleteI was just a bit older than Jayden during the snow storm of "69" I believe or was it "67" in Chicago? Either way I had a blast just like sweet Jayden. But I am so sorry that your plans with the girls were ruined Eileen! As I was reading this I kept thinking, maybe they'll have a snowball fight instead! That would have been fun to see! Would you believe that it is supposed to be in the 70's here tomorrow? Weird but true. Well at least you have two handsome strong men to help you out!
ReplyDeleteLove You, Di ♥
HI EILEEN-
ReplyDeletePowerful storm - I was trapped in here until 7:30 at night. Not that I was planning on going out - :-) Skipp cleared a path so he could get to work but the wind covered it quickly and the drifts were up against the front door. The back slider opened so Gracey could get out, phew. I love your pictures and seeing Jayden having so much fun with you. Sorry about your girls day but you are so right, something to look forward to in Spring :-)
Love Gail
peace.....
I remember those days....lol!!! Honestly I don't miss snow...not one little bit!!!!!

How cold the weather is! Snow is also heavy! Wishing you peace, joy and happiness through Christmas and the coming year.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the kids had a grand time...maybe your outing can be in Spring? Wising you all the best and Happy New Year!!!!! Cathy
ReplyDeleteSo...it really WAS as bad as we heard! We were in a similarly big storm in 1978 here in Indiana. Good excuse to stay in and stay warm unless you're a child who wants to play in it or a man who has to shovel the walks :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say I cannot even imagine looking out my window to see such beauty! But on the other hand, I also cannot imagine having the change my plans because of the weather. Or finding my car buried under the snow! WOW!
